Sir,
This has reference to news item ”90 million Indian face VDs” DE Sept 29.
It has been pointed out that India has only 59 doctors for every 100,000 people which is much less than the ratio prevailing in developed countries. The statement clearly reveals that India faces acute shortage of doctors to cater 1 billion population. The medical services are quite poor in rural areas as compared to urban areas. Most of the rural areas do not have the facility of providing even primary medical aid to people living in and around it. They usually have to go other places to seek medical asistance.
The move costs them in terms of money and time. Besides, it makes city health centres crowded. With the result, the quality of service gets reduced and it often results in patient-doctor conflicts.
To avoid such scenes, it becomes imperative that more medical colleges are opened.
Moreover, it should be ensured that those who graduate from these institutions work in India only and not in foreign countries. India requires their services and the same should be utilised in a proper way.
Yours etc…
