Shortage of medicines in Valley

SRINAGAR, Feb 21: Thirteen people have been tested positive for swine flu at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura taking toll of infected persons’ to 109.
Officials of the SKIMS said that no fresh death occurred today and so far the toll stands at 4. They said that six patients admitted at SKIMS isolation ward have been discharged.
“Seven H1N1 patients are admitted in the SKIMS, out of which one is on ventilator,” the official said.
The official said that apart from 4000 N95 masks received yesterday, patients are also informed that Tamiflu is also now available at SKIMS. “Today samples for H1N1 were taken from 50 patients out of 283 patients with respiratory symptoms seen at the Special OPD at attendant Sarai at SKIMS,” the official said.
The SKIMS authorities have advised people to strictly avoid social gatherings, frequently wash hands and wear masks and not to unnecessarily visit hospitals and take precautionary measures as advised by experts.
General public has been informed that Special OPD at attendant Sarai SKIMS will remain functional on Sunday from 10.00 A.M to 4.00 P.M.
The hospital has also set up a helpline number for general public to seek expert advise or for any query. The help line number is 0194-2403679.
In the meantime, panic continued in Kashmir valley due to swine flu. People were looking for vaccines but there are no H1N1 vaccines available in the market nor in the Government hospital.
The swine flu drugs are also in short supply while there is only one testing laboratory in the State at SKIMS.
