JAMMU, Jan 21: Acute shortage of Professors and Associate Professors in Medicines Department of the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu has resulted into less number of Post Graduate (PG) seats for the students and also marred career prospectus of Lecturers and Assistant Professors due to delay in their promotion by the Jammu and Kashmir Government.
Sources said there has been inordinate delay in promotion of Lecturers and Assistant Professors in Medicines Department of the Government Medical College Jammu due to which there is just one each Professor and Associate Professor in the Department while sanctioned strength of the posts is much higher.
“The faculty is available. Lecturers and Assistant Professors are waiting for promotion as Associate Professors and Professors but the Jammu and Kashmir Government has been delaying the promotions without any reason,” sources said, adding that further delay in the promotions could deprive the students of Post Graduate seats in the Medicines Department as Professor and Associate Professors are entitled to two PG seats each.
They were of the view that the Government should hold promotion of existing faculty in Medicines Department, like other Departments of the GMC Jammu, so that vacancies are filled and PG aspirants don’t have to suffer.
