JAMMU: While the Urban Local Body of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) will complete its mandatory tenure of five years after some months, there are still incomplete developments in Ward number 61 of Jammu city because of poor funding.
Mohinder Kumar, elected Councillor of Ward number 61 of JMC informed that only 50 per cent work of lanes and drains has been done in the Ward.
He said that the Ward includes areas of Patta Paloura, Manorama Vihar, Gopinath Ashram Mohalla, Officers Colony, Dharmat Mohalla, Kailash Vihar, Udhaiwala, Om Nagar, Surya Vihar, Anand Nagar, Saraswati Vihar, Dhamal Jattan, Mangal Nagar and Kerni Mohalla.
In an exclusive interaction with the Excelsior, Kumar, who is from BJP and is a first time Councillor said that a Nallah in Kailash Vihar area of his Ward always remain a big problem as it causes havoc in rainy season after its water overflows causing flood especially in the areas of Dhamal Jattan and Udhaywalla where the water even enters residential houses causing damage.
“There are three such Nallahs in my Ward which cause havoc especially in rainy season as the areas through which these flow are low lying,” he said.
The Councillor also said that his Ward has been provided with very less number of Safai Karamcharis than what was required there.
“Against a requirement of 60, only 34 Safai Karamcharis have been given to my Ward and this has directly affected cleanliness there though our Ward has remained number one in giving revenue to JMC,” he said.
On garbage disposal, Kumar said that door-to-door moving autos to collect the garbage have solved the problem of garbage disposal in the Ward.
He counted another problem of the Ward as that due to addicts and said that police never takes a cognisance in this regard.
“We have to call cops even in case of a road mishap. Police should join JMC Councillor to serve the society,” Kumar further said adding that the problem of stray animals in the Ward is as it was earlier.
“Only 50 per cent of lanes and roads have been blacktopped in the Ward so far while the work of drains too has been done only halfway and these works could not be done 100 per cent due to paucity of funds,” he said.
“Among works done by me in the Ward is construction of a cremation ground with all the required facilities,” the Councillor said.
He claimed that of the total requirement only 50 per cent of street lights have been installed in the Ward and of those installed, half have developed some snag due to which they are not working and the concerned company least bothers to correct the snag thereby leaving the public to suffer.
The Councillor informed that about 70-80 per cent of people of his Ward have made their Ayushman Cards while camps for the remaining are still continuing along with the camps for Aadhar and Voter Cards.
He also said that during COVID-19 pandemic triggered lockdown they helped the needy people with ration and other necessary things and also organised vaccination camps in the Ward and now almost all the people of his Ward have been vaccinated for COVID-19.
“In the ongoing dengue fever epidemic, I have got fogging done twice in my Ward,” Kumar maintained.
He also expressed concern over the Government High School at Bohri Chowk for it being in very bad shape and said that the school should be immediately repaired else it will remain a risk for the poor students studying there.
“I would have made my Ward number one in Jammu had there been proper funding from the authorities concerned,” the JMC Councillor claimed.
He also said that there is no sewerage network in his Ward and no playground while the only park in the Ward is at Manorama Vihar area.
Kumar said that public of his Ward is very much satisfied with his works which motivates him to work more for the welfare of the Ward.
