This has reference to the news item ‘Indian armed forces short of 9,845 officers’ DE Dec 10.
In view of the developments taking places along LAC and LOC, it is quite imperative that Indian Armed forces are ready to face any challenge. The shortage of officers in the Army is a topic that has been discussed time and again, but the Indian Army has failed to fill these slots despite many awareness camps in the past. . The shortage of officers is attributed to unattractive pay scales in the Army. It is reported that even officers quit their jobs to get plum posts in private sector.
The Armed forces have to introduce many more incentives to lure young, talented and passionate youths. In case some service rules need to be relaxed, that should be done at the earliest. Besides, Army should not be used for carrying out works that are to be done by other auxillary forces.
