JAMMU, Nov 11: Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS) & Hospital, Sidhra has achieved yet another milestone by successfully performing Arthroscopic repair of rotator cuff (Shoulder Tendon).
The surgical team led by Head of Orthopaedic Department, Prof Rajesh Gupta successfully repaired the supraspinatus tendon through keyhole (Arthroscopic) technique.
Prof Gupta informed that a 40-year-old male had history of pain in left shoulder from last 4 years. The patient was a laborer who was unable to lift weight from his affected side. He further told that the patient had seen multiple doctors who advised him Injections in the shoulder but patient’s symptoms did not improved despite injections.
The surgery was conducted using three stab incisions in the shoulder and tendons were repaired to footprint using specially designed suture anchors. Prof Gupta further stressed that only three stitches were given on the shoulder area and joint can also be seen through Arthroscope.
Prof Pavan Malhotra, Director Principal, informed that department of Orthopaedics, ASCOMS Hospital, has been successfully conducting Arthroscopic surgeries of Knee Joint. “It is for the first time, Arthroscopic repair of shoulder tendon has been done in our hospital. The department of Orthopaedics is fully equipped and strained to perform these kinds of surgeries,” he added.
The surgery was performed by Prof Rajesh Gupta, HoD Orthopaedics and Dr Shafiq Hackla, Assistant Professor, assisted by Dr Nitish Shasrma. Prof Rajesh Gupta is an expert in the field of Orthopaedics, Sports Injury, complex trauma and joint replacement surgeries.
