Shri Krishna Janamashtami celebrated with religious fervour, gaiety across Jammu

Devotees throng temples from early morning

JAMMU, Aug 26: Like other parts of the country, Shri Krishna Janamashtami was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety across Jammu region today. All the temples of Lord Krishna were specially decorated with buntings and flowers while Lord Krishna’s portraits were placed in highly decorated cradles in temples where visiting devotees paid obeisance to the Lord.

There was heavy rush in the temples of Lord Krishna all over the region from early morning which continued late up to mid night till the birth of Lord. The temples were fully decorated with buntings and flowers befitting the occasion. The Bhajan Kirtan was also held in praise of Lord Krishna and religious scholars gave lecturers in various temples on Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta and life and teachings of Lord Krishna.

The devotees observed complete fast on the day till mid night as a mark of faith and devotion to Lord Krishna. They participated in special prayers in the temples seeking blessings for themselves, their family members and mankind.
At various places special Jhankis were taken out by the devotees and the respective Mandir Committees highlighting the different aspects of Lord Krishna’s life from his childhood. The Jhankis passed from various markets and areas. The devotees enroute showered flowers on Jhankis and paid obeisance to Lord Krishna.
In Jammu, main function was held at Raghunath Mandir where devotees thronged from early in the morning to participate in prayers to Lord. The entire temple complex was as usual decorated by the Dharmarth Trust management. A Bhajan Sandhya was held in the evening in which the devotees drawn from adjoining areas participated.
This was followed by Mangal Arti held in late night. The Arti started at 11-30 pm and concluded at 12 midnight the time of Lord’s birth. The people who had kept the fast for the day broke the fast after the birth of Lord by taking Prashad. The trustees of Dharmarth Trust Ranvijay Singh and Martand Singh were present during Mangal Aarti. The devotees were served Prashad after the culmination of the Aarti.
Another function was organised by Sanatan Dharam Sabha (SDS) at Geeta Bhawan, here in which large number of devotees participated. A Bhajan Kirtan was also held during late night. In connection with celebration of Janamashtami a function was held at Radha Krishan Mandir Gole Market, Gandhi Nagar where the devotees rush continued for entire day. The entire temple complex was fully decorated and visiting devotees offered their prayers to Lord on the occasion. In the night special prayers were held and devotees were served with Prashad after the culmination of function.
The functions were also held in different temples of Lord Krishna in city and its outskirts. Special programme was organised at Shri Krishna temple at Dharmal, Barnai, ISKCON Temple Dream City, Muthi, temples in old city Jammu, Shri Krishna Temple Basant Nagar Janipur, Tri Murti Mandir Janipur etc.
At Trimurti Mandir Janipur hundreds of devotees participated in Janamashtami celebrations drawn from surrounding areas. The day -long Bhajan -Kirtan was held in the temple and during night Puja and Samohik Aarti was held by the Mandir Trust which was followed by serving of Prashad to devotees.
At Jai Srikrishna Temple, Basant Nagar , Janipur a Jhanki and religious procession was taken out under the leadership of temple Committee. The procession was led by Mahant Yogesh Ji. The Janki passed through various markets. In the night the devotees assembled in the temple premises and participated in Bhajan -Kirtan.
A special function was organised by Sahik Samiti Trikuta Nagar which celebrated the Janamashtami with destitute children studying in Balgran Charitable Home, Chani Rama. The children were served lunch and fruits were also distributed among them. Kewal Sher, Rakesh Raina and other members of the Samiti and members of Charitable Home were present during the event.
A special function was held by Rainawari Kashmiri Pandit Action Committee (RKPAC) in connection with celebration of Zaram Satam at Sri Sri Jagat Amba Sharika Chakreshwari Sanstha , Hari Parbat , Doke Paloura.
The function started with the invocation of mantras seeking the blessings of Lord Krishna. Sanjay Raina, a scholar was the guest speaker on the occasion.
Another function was organised by Sharika Peeth Sanstha, Subash Nagar here to celebrate Janamashtami in which hundreds of devotees participated. Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta was recited and Prashad was also distributed.
The functions of Janam Ashtami celebrations were held at Kathua where Jhankis were taken out from different temples which passed through the main markets and later culminated in their respective temples. A large number of devotees reciting Bhajan Kirtan in praise of Lord Krishna participated in these Jhankis. Besides, the Bhajan Kirtan, special prayers were held in Shri Krishna temples in the town.
In Samba town the main function was held in Narsinghdev Temple Ghagwal where hundreds of devotees participated to pay obeisance to Lord Krishna on this auspicious day.
The Janamashtami was also celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety in the towns of Ramban, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, Reasi, holy township of Katra, Sunderbani, Nowshera, Rajouri, Poonch, Hiranagar, Bishnah, R S Pura and Bari Brahmana.
