KATRA, May 4: Governing Body of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing, Kakryal met here under the chairmanship of Maj. Gen. (Retd) Shiv Kumar Sharma, Member, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and Chairman of the Governing Body of the Nursing College and finalised the arrangements for admission of the first batch of students in this College.
The meeting was attended by the Members of the Governing Body of the Nursing College including Dr. M. K. Bhandari, ex-CEO of the Shrine Board; Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board; Dr. V. Verma, Dean, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University; Subrata Deb, Librarian, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University; and Dr. (Brig.) Man Mohan Harjai, Chief Administrative Officer, SMVDN Superspeciality Hospital, Kakryal and Dr. Shailla Cannie, Principal of the Nursing College, who are Convenor and Co-convenor of the Governing Body, respectively.
The Chairman and Members of the Governing Body took stock of the various arrangements put in place for imparting quality teaching in the College of Nursing, including infrastructure, faculty, library, laboratories, hostel for students etc and expressed satisfaction at the arrangements.
Dr. Shailla Cannie, Principal of the College, informed that the admission process for the first batch of the College of Nursing will begin this month and 60 girl students shall be selected on merit for the 4 year B. Sc. Nursing programme which will be spread over 8 semesters. The admission of the first batch of students shall be done in July this year.
The Nursing College was approved by the Indian Nursing Council in April this year, with a capacity of 60 students. The College, which will follow Semester and Credit Based system as per the latest guidelines of the UGC, is affiliated to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Kakryal, Katra.
The Nursing College has highly qualified faculty and is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure like hi-tech smart classrooms with LED Projectors and WiFi connectivity, most modern labs which include Nursing Foundation Laboratory, Nutrition Laboratory, Anatomy Laboratory, Biochemistry and Microbiology Laboratory and Computer Laboratory, a well stocked library with facility of on-line journals for real time accessing information regarding latest advancements made in the stream of nursing worldwide, both by the students and the faculty.
The added advantage of this Nursing College is its attachment to the 230-bed Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister recently.
A well furnished hostel has been prepared for the students, for a comfortable stay and facilities for hygienic food.
