SRINAGAR, Sept 12:
Guards posted at the shrine of Asar-e-Sharief Pinjoora opened fire after there was suspicious movement in the area late last night.
Official sources said here today police personnel, guarding the shrine, noticed some suspicious movement outside the shrine area in south Kashmir. However, when challenged there was no response forcing the guards to open fire.
Fire continued for some time, they said, adding later the entire area was searched by the security forces, who had come from other nearby camps.
No one was arrested, they said, adding, however, panic gripped the area after hearing firing shots.
A number of civilians also came out from their houses and joined the search operation.
In the recent past, four attempts were made to set on fire shrines and other religious places in the Kashmir valley.
People are yet to come out from the shock after the shrine of Hazrat Peer Dastgeer Sahib at Khanyar was completely gutted in a devastating fire in June this year. Another century-old shrine was also gutted Budgam district. (UNI)
