NEW DELHI, Aug 26: Shriram Rayons has received green clearance for capacity expansion of rayon tyre yarn cord and captive power generation at its Kota unit in Rajasthan, entailing a cost of Rs 163 crore.
Rayon tyre yarn cord is used as reinforcement material in high performance tyres. There are only four manufacturers of this product in the world, out of which two are in India.
To meet the growing demand of this product, Shriram Rayons — a unit of DCM Shriram Industries — has proposed to expand its production capacities in Rajasthan.
“Based on the recommendations of the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC), the Environment Ministry has given green clearance to the Shriram Rayons’ expansion project,” a senior government official said.
Out of the total project cost, the company will earmark Rs 5.34 crore per annum towards capital cost and recurring cost for implementing environmental management plan.
The green clearance to the Rs 163-crore project has been given subject to certain conditions, the official said.
Among specific conditions, the firm has been told that the green nod to the project would be subject to obtaining prior clearance from wildlife angle including clearance from the Standing Committee of the National Board for National Ghariyal Sanctuary.
Further, it has been asked to obtain authorisation for collection, storage and disposal of hazardous waste.
Shriram Rayons has proposed increasing the production capacity of rayon tyre cord to 36 metric tonnes per day (MTPD) from the current 23 MTPD, dipped fabric to 35 MTPD from 20 MTPD, carbon disulphide to 20 MTPD from 15 MTPD and sodium suphate to 40 MTPD from 27 MTPD.
It has also proposed increasing captive power generation capacity to 11.2 MW from 7.2 MW. (PTI)
