NAGROTA, Dec 2: National Conference Provincial President Devender Singh Rana advised the BJP to do some soul searching with regard to tackling terror, saying jingoism won’t help anymore to insulate the nation from this scourge.
“We have been witnessing a huge gap between words and deeds of the BJP as far as national security is concerned”, Rana said while addressing workers at Manwal and Sagoon areas of Nagrota Assembly Constituency, adding that their actions do not match words on ground.
Rana referred to high-profile terror attacks in Uri, Baramulla and Nagrota in the recent past and said that the BJP has miserably failed in learning any lesson from the Pathankot terror attack. He wondered that the report on Pathankot attack together with recommendations formulated by an expert committee is reportedly gathering dust in the Ministry of Defence for nearly a year now.
“This speaks of the callousness and casualness the BJP is showing towards national security, as also seriousness of the NDA Government in being part of the global war against terror”, he said.
The Provincial President said alarming spurt in terror attacks has exposed vulnerability of the nation and the people were genuinely apprehensive about their security. He said except for levelling blames and indulging in rhetoric over terror related violence, the BJP had never even endeavoured to find out loopholes in the security setup for doing course correction.
He cautioned the BJP to desist from playing politics over national security and instead act on ground firmly so that sense of security is instilled among compatriots. “There is neither any room for complacency nor for thumping backs in the delusion of doing something great or heroic”, he said adding that the Government will be ultimately judged by what it does on ground zero.
Rana condemned terror attacks and said the civilians and soldiers are falling like mute ducks due to policy paralysis of the Government. “Despite being in power for over two and a half years that NDA has not been able to spell out its Pakistan policy”, he said.
The MLA Nagrota questioned the hypocrisy of the BJP saying it has been showing disturbing signs of intolerance in dissent and trying to impose their version of nationalism upon the countrymen. “They are not open to suggestions and healthy criticism that is core of democracy, which is why the nation is standing at cross-roads of its history”, he maintained.
