Srinagar, Mar 3: Tension gripped parts of Kashmir this morning after the news about mysterious death of a Kashmiri student in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh spread here.
Markets were shut and traffic went off the roads as the news of the mysterious death of a student Mudasir Kamran Malla son of Ghulam Qasir Malla resident of Parigam Pulwama pursuing Ph.D in English at English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad was found hanging in his hostel room Saturday night.
Hundreds of people of Mudasir’s native village of Parigam marched towards Pulwama township in protest against the death. They were intercepted by police and CRPF at Newa in the township resulting in stone pelting and tear gas shelling.
Clashes between police and angry protesters continued at main town Pulwama, Kakapora and Koil for several hours. Security personnel resorted to tear gas shelling to disperse the protesters. Around half a dozen youth and policemen received minor injuries while around a half dozen youth were detained by police. Some Police and CRPF vehicles were damaged at Koil and Newa townships during stone pelting incidents.
Protests broke out at Shopian and Kulgam towns in South Kashmir and Sumbal, Sonawari and Naid Khai areas of Bandipora district and parts of old city areas of Srinagar. Police charged batons and fired tear smoke shells at the protesters to disperse them.
The family members of Mudasir alleged that he was harassed by the University authorities and police. They alleged that he didn’t commit suicide but was murdered.
A police spokesman said here that immediately after coming to know about the death of a Kashmiri, student in Hyderabad, Jammu and Kashmir Police contacted the Hyderabad Police.
“According to the District Police authorities of Pulwama, the Hyderabad Police has informed that Mudasir Ahmed Malla son of Ghulam Qadir Malla resident of Parigam Pulwama was a student of English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) Hyderabad. He was putting up with a friend namely Waseem in a hostel room for some time. However, some time back Waseem who belongs to Maharashtra had shifted from this room. Waseem had also complained against Mudasir to the proctor of the University. The proctor had called and counselled Mudasir a couple of times. Yesterday Mudasir Ahmed Malla was found hanging in his hostel room”, said police spokesman.
The spokesman further said that Hyderabad Police have lodged an FIR 79/2013 under Section 306-IPC in police station Osmania University against the proctor. Further investigation in the case is going on and Jammu and Kashmir Police is in constant touch with the Hyderabad Police.
In the meantime, the Muttahida Majlis-e-Mushawrat (MM), a conglomerate of separatist organistaions formed last week that spearheads the campaign to seek return of mortal remains of Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru, today called for strike on Monday.
Meanwhile, Minister of State for Home, Sajjad Ahmad Kitchloo has said that the death of a Kashmiri boy in Hyderabad is reported to have been caused by suicide according to the early investigation by Hyderabad police. He has rejected the rumours been circulated by the rumour mongers and vested interests and described them as baseless.
In a statement issued here today, Kitchloo said that J&K Government is in close touch with Andhra Pradesh Government in this connection. He appealed to the people not to get astray by rumours and maintain calm.
He has expressed sympathy with the bereaved family and assured them all help in bringing back the body of the deceased.
