Shutdown observed over alleged police high-handedness

DODA, June 22: Demanding immediate action against the erring police officials and civil administration over lathi-charge on people protesting against unscheduled power cuts, a complete shutdown was observed in Doda town and a strong but peaceful protest rally was also held.
Amid slogans against PDD, Police and District Administration, hundreds of people assembled in main market and took out a rally.
The shutdown call was issued by Seerat Committee Doda which alleged that District Administration and Police used brutal force and cane-charged the youths who were protesting against the PDD for unscheduled curtailment in the month of Ramadhan especially during prayer times outside PDD office yesterday night.
“Administration is deliberately resorting to unscheduled power cuts in this holy month, perhaps to please their communal bosses. I have never seen such power crisis in my life. We, the people of Chenab Valley in general and Doda in particular, are being literally pushed into the dark age, despite being the biggest generator of the hydroelectric power in the State”, said former Home Minister of the State and President Seerat Committee Doda Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy.
He added that it is unfortunate and pathetic on part of District Administration and Police for using brutal force against the youth, who were using their democratic right. The erring officials should be booked at the earliest otherwise this issue will snowball into a massive agitation, he maintained.
Later, Suharwardy appealed to the business community to open their shops in view of ongoing holy month of Ramadan.
