SI caught accepting bribe

JAMMU, July 10: A Sub-Inspector of J&K Police, posted at Bagh-e-Bahu, was today caught red handed by the Vigilance Organization Jammu while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.
The accused SI, identified as Amar Chand, was demanding the money as bribe for releasing the retained documents of a Maruti van of the complainant.
The complaint Nek Ram of Jindrah Kodgah had lodged a written complaint with VOJ stating that around two months back, he was arrested at Bagh-e-Bahu Police Station in a case. While he was under arrest, his Maruti Van bearing registration number JK02H-5152 was retained by the said police station for 5-6 days and later on it was handed over to a native boy of his village in lieu of Rs 1000 as bribe paid to SI Amar Chand. However, documents of the van were not returned by the said SI. When the complainant was bailed out three days back and he approached Police for the retained documents of his Maruti Van, the accused SI demanded Rs 10,000 as bribe for returning the documents of the vehicle.
Acting on the complaint, sleuths of Vigilance Organization Jammu laid a trap and caught the SI red handed in the presence of independent witnesses. The trap was laid by Dy SP VK Bhat under the supervision of SSP Vigilance Dr Koshal Kumar Sharma.
A case FIR no 27/2015 under Section 5 (1) (d) r/w 5 (2) J&K PC Act 2006 BK and Section 161 RPC has been registered in this connection at Police Station Vigilance Organization Jammu.
