The SIA teams have recovered two mobile telephones during searches which have given certain important leads to them as they contained contact numbers of important persons being searched by the cops. Besides, incriminating material and gadgets have also been recovered during searches.
The raids were conducted by the SIA in connection with a case registered under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) against some persons of the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch who have been acting as guides to the militants especially in helping the infiltrators to reach hideouts or pick up consignments of arms, ammunition and explosives dropped from drones to the safer zones on instructions of the militants.
“Some suspects were identified in the case and accordingly searches were conducted to gather evidence against them,” the sources said, adding the raids continued throughout the day.
The persons whose houses were searched today will be called for questioning later.
The SIA has been tightening nooses against the militants and their associates in Rajouri and Poonch districts which witnessed series of terror attacks on civilians as well as Army.
Few days back, the SIA teams had conducted raids at multiple locations in Poonch district in connection with narco-terror case involving kingpin Rafi Lala. An associate of Lala was arrested during the searches and brought to Jammu for questioning.
Lala was involved in smuggling of weaponry and narcotics from Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Jammu Kashmir (PoJK) with the help of associates at the behest of Pak army, ISI and militant commanders and provided them to militants and drug peddlers.
Proceeds generated from smuggling of narcotics were used to fund terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
