NEW DELHI: Saluting the endurance and will power of Lance Naik Hanumanthappa, the soldier who who survived in the February 3 avalanche in the Siachen Glacier, Congress president Sonia Gandhi today wished for his speedy recovery and long life.
In a letter to Ms Basamma, the mother of the Siachen hero, Ms Gandhi prayed for his speedy recovery so that he could resume his daily routine at the earliest and contribute to the service of the nation.
Ms Gandhi said, “No words are enough to praise the contribution of our brave soldiers who defend their country in a difficult terrain like Siachen in adverse circumstances.” Ms Gandhi said she had been pained and anguished over the reports of 10 jawans dying in the tragic incident but Lance Naik Hanumanthappa surviving in the incident came as a ‘ray of hope’.
