Sikh bodies seek formation of Minority Commission

JAMMU, Feb 27: J&K Sikh Societies (Amalgamate) have stressed upon the Government to set up Minority Commission and enact Anand Karaj Act in the State.
A delegation of the Sikh bodies led by its chairman, Gurdeep Singh Sasan met the Chief Minister here today and presented a memorandum to him. They demanded formation of Minority Commission by amending NC Act, 192 to make the Act applicable to J&K and consider enactment of a law for the promulgation of J&K Minorities Act. They stressed for bringing amendment in Anand Karaj Act validated in J&K State thereby, giving the opportunity to Sikhs to register their marriages under Anand Karaj Act.
The delegation also demanded constitution of J&K Welfare and Development Board for the PoK Refugees and other displaced persons, formation of Minority Financial Corporation on the pattern of SCs/STs, declaration of Transport as Industry, regularization of refugees camps/ bastis, sufficient representation to Sikhs in PSC, SSRB, Judiciary and other statutory bodies, special scholarships to the poor students of community, reservation in professional colleges and recruitment.
