Sikh Council seeks political reservation for community

JAMMU, Sept 8: Projecting strong demand of granting political reservation to the Sikh community, J&K Sikh Council, a social organization today stressed for providing them representation in the State Cabinet besides Upper and Lower Houses of the State Legislature.
Addressing a press conference here today, president of the body, Harmohinder Singh said Sikhs have been deprived of political reservation and Government should reserve at least 2 seats each in the Legislative Council and Assembly by the State Government. He also demanded representation to the community candidate in the Cabinet.
Mr Singh also stressed for constitution of Minority Commission and sought amendment in Article 25 of the Indian Constitution. He said the Council rejects the demands of trifurcation, bifurcation, self rule or greater autonomy raised by various political parties. He said improving Indo-Pak relations would help in resolving issues between two countries and maintain peace in the region.
The Council leader further stressed the need to resolve pending issues of PoK refugees who are struggling since long. There should not be two set or norms for refugees as these create divide in the society. He said that no inquiry reports regarding Chittisinghpora massacre,Talwar killings, 1989 riots, Posh Kareeri, Mir Bazar, Dardpura killings have been made public. He also demanded release of Sikh youth lying in jails and given amnesty as done in case of Hashim Qureshi of Kashmir. Gurvinder Singh, general secretary demanded an inquiry in the fake encounters and mysterious missing of Sikh youth from Jammu region in last two decades.
