JAMMU, May 22: Sikh Sangat has demanded increase in the wages of Ragis and Granthis who are already observing a dharna for the same since a week.
A meeting of intellectuals and Sikh Sangat of Jammu district was held under the chairmanship of S Davinder Singh for highlighting several issues concerning management of Gurudwaras and performance of District Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee, Jammu.
The meet observed that keeping in view the price rise and increased offerings by public at the Gurudwaras, the monthly wages of Granthies and Ragies be enhances to Rs ten thousand and Rs eight thousand, respectively.
The meet also criticized the DGPC for allegedly wasting offering money amounting lakhs of rupees in litigations and court cases but not increasing wages of the staff.
The Sangat sought intervention of the State Government for avoiding further loss to Gurudwara money by giving effect to SRO 375 under the State Gurudwara Endowment Act.
Those who attended the meeting, included S Charanjeet Singh, Lakhbir Singh, Swarn Singh, Manjeet Singh, Gurmukh Singh, Pardeep Singh, Surjeet Singh, Mandeep Singh, Gurcharan Singh, Hardev Singh, Kanchan Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Gurmail Singh, Tarsem Singh, Sukhdev Singh, Tejinder Singh, Saroop Singh, Raghbir Singh, Kulwant Singh and Santokh Singh.
