JAMMU, June 23: Parvinder Singh Happy, a prominent social Sikh leader in Jammu and Kashmir, has raised a crucial demand of due representation of the Sikh community in the upcoming Assembly elections.
In a statement issued here today, P.S Happy emphasized the significant role Sikhs play in the electoral landscape of J&K, urging all political parties to acknowledge their substantial voter base and ensure proportional representation.
“The Sikh community holds a respectable number of votes across Jammu and Kashmir, often being the deciding factor in many constituencies,” Happy stated. “It is disheartening that despite our historical contributions, Sikhs continue to be marginalized in political spheres.”
Happy highlighted the promises made by political parties to incorporate Sikh voices into their structures, particularly in regions where Sikh votes are decisive. He underscored the community’s demands for equal opportunities and representation, citing examples such as the non-implementation of Punjabi in J&K’s 8th Schedule as a glaring injustice.
“We will not tolerate any further discrimination or neglect,” he said, adding “political parties must uphold their commitments to the Sikh electorate or face the consequences at the polls.”
