JAMMU, July 9: A delegation of senior members of the Jammu and Kashmir Sikh Council met Naeem Akhter, Minister for Road, Buildings and Public Works, here today.
The delegation including Ranjeet Singh Raina, Joginder Singh, Harasis Singh Kranti and Gurmeet Singh submitted a memorandum to the Minister demanding induction of Punjabi as language in the School Education analogous to Dogri, Kashmiri and Bodhi.
The Council members apprised the Minister about the aspirations of the Punjabi speaking people and stressed for induction of the language.
Sikh Council spokesperson said ‘Punjabi’ is not just a language but it itself a civilization, cultural heritage and religious faith, adding there is huge population of Punjabi speaking community in the state and they feel being deprived of their right.
The Minister assured the delegation that their demands would be put-forth before the Chief Minister and if necessary the government may again hold meeting with the stake holders.
