Sikhs oppose decision on Nanak Shahi Calender

JAMMU, Oct 5: Several Sikh organizations have opposed the decision of the pro-Badal and BJP Jathedars at Shri Akal Takhat Sahib, Amritsar, for removing Nanak Shahi Calendar 2003.
In a meeting of various Sikh bodies including J&K unit of Shiromani Akali Dal (Asr), Sikh Students Federation, Sikh Youth Federation and others; the speakers strongly condemned the decision with regard to removal of Nanak Shahi Calendar 2003. They described this decision as anti-Panthic and said that it appeared to be influenced by pro-Badal-BJP and RSS ideology. They also regretted the decision to sack Jathedar Balwant Singh Nandgarh by SGPC.
Prominent among those present in the meeting included: J S Mangal, Gurdev Singh, Ram Singh, Rashpal Singh, N S Khalsa, Jaswant Singh and Manmohan Singh.
