Sikhs pin hopes on new Govt

Srinagar, May 19: All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) today hoped that new Government at centre won’t repeat mistakes committed by the Congress led United Progressive Alliance Government and the present State Government.
APSCC Chairman, Jagmohan Singh Raina said that real power lies with the people and this was reflected during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
Raina exuded confidence that the new Government headed by Narendra Modi would take meaningful steps to address issues confronting people of Jammu and Kashmir. “Modi should gauge public mood and take people oriented measures,” he added.
He said that the minority Sikh community supported National Conference and Congress with the hope that their issues would be resolved, but all the issues were ignored.
“Despite meeting Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah thrice and some of the Congress Ministers over the past five years, every time they ignored the minority community. The leaders fully know that many Assembly segments in the State comprise minority segments and their united vote matters a lot in electing an MLA”, Raina said.
“The State Government has not extended the National Commission for Minority Act to the State. We demand that some share should be given to educated Sikh youth in the employment packages announced from time to time. Senior Sikh officers should be given top posts in the state administration,” he said.
“Let the new Central Government appoint an Enquiry Commission to probe into the charter of demands submitted to the State Government particularly CM in core meetings of Sikh representatives. Like majority in Kashmir, minority Sikh community suffered immensely and despite provocative acts like Chattisinghpora and other massacres the community promoted brotherhood and never left valley,” said Raina.
