Sikhs protest, demand inclusion of Punjabi in schools

Srinagar, June 22:  Scores of Sikh community members held a protest while demanding to make Punjabi subject compulsory up to higher secondary level with other regional language subjects.
The protesters came up on the road after J&K Government issued order under number 333-edu of 2017 dated 19-06-2017.  According to this order Kashmiri, Budhi and Dogri subjects are to be made compulsory up to higher secondary level and will be implement from next academic session.
Earlier, protesters assembled in the lawn of Gurudwara Shaheed Bunga, Brazulla Bhagat. Later they started a march towards the CM’s residence. However, the police foiled the march.

While speaking to the gathering All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) chairman, Sardar Jaghmohan Singh Raina threatened State Government as well Central Goverment that either include Punjabi subject as compulsory with other regional language subjects or be ready to face state- wide agitation after Eid.
“Punjabi is one of the recognised languages under the constitution of India. Being an old language of the J&K State, it was included as a regional language in the 6th scheduled of section 146 of J&K constitution,  it has been totally ignored by the Governments ,”  he said.
Gurudwara Parbhandak Committee (GPC) Pulwama president Joginder Singh Shan , GPC Srinagr sectary  Navtej Singh , GPC  Budgam president Santpal Singh,BJP leader Avtar Singh,  Advocate Bikramdeep Singh , social activist Balwinder Singh and volunteers of Gurmat Taksal (IGS) were also part of the protest.
