Sikhs protest release of ‘Baba Nanak Shah Faqir’

JAMMU, Apr 12: Activists of various Sikh organizations and members of District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (DGPC) Jammu held protest demonstration here today against the release of  film `Baba  Nanak Shah Faqir’.
The members many Sikh bodies including  Sikh United Front J&K, Shiromani Akali Dal J&K Unit,  Sikh Naujwan Sabha, Bhai Kanhaiya  Nishkam Sewa Society  J&K, AISSF, Sikh Welfare Society, Members DGPC Jammu and J&K Motor Transport Company Association Jammu assembled near Press Club Jammu  and  held a strong protest demonstration  against  the release of film- ‘Baba Nanak Shah Faqir’.

They pointed out that certain objectionable scenes have been shown in the movie which are  against the Sikh religious tenets. The activists and leaders furthers said that Sikhs are protesting all over the country against the release of this film and there is a lot of resentment and anguish in the community. The organizations demanded a complete ban on the release of said movie with the intervention of Government. They further warned against screening of this movie in any theatre of  the State. They also sought support of general public Theatre owners in this regard. The anti-Sikh role of Censor Board of India was lambasted by the Sikhs which gave clearance to the film.
Prominent among those present included  Amrik Singh Ex-secretary  DGPC Jammu,  Mohinder Singh, Paramjit Singh,  Dharbinder Singh, Raja Singh Member . Surjeet Singh Kuku,  Harpreet Singh,  Surinder Singh Kala, Gajan Singh,   Dayal Singh Wazir,  Kulwant Singh,  Parveen Singh, . Gurdev Singh,  Jagjit Singh,  Jasvinder Singh Lucky, Ravinder Singh, Rasbeer Singh, Sukhdev Singh,  Rajinder Singh, Aaya Singh and  Paramjeet Singh  Raina.
Meanwhile, Sikh United Council, J&K,  delegation led by  Mohinder Singh Khalsa   submitted  memorandum to Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Hemant Sharma  seeking ban on the release of Movie Nanak Shah Faqir. They said some scenes of the film are highly objectionable and same be removed before the release of the film.
