SRINAGAR, Apr 2: All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) has appealed Election Commission of India to direct the state election authorities not to allow exploitation of people on religion and misuse of religious places by political parties in state ahead of Parliament elections.
In a joint statement, leaders of various Sikh groups under the banner of APSCC have said that people should be vigilant against the politicians who might use or facilitate the usage of religious space for political reasons more so while seeking votes.
The leaders said that political parties who have exploited Sikhs for their own benefit deserve no sympathy whatsoever from the community members.
Referring to the formation of Minority Cell by a political party, Master Kuldeep Singh, Ex-President, Gurdwara Prabhandhak Committee (GPC), Srinagar, said that this move is aimed to give an impression that this political party is serious towards the problems of Sikhs.
“We have been raising the issues being faced by Sikh community with the State Government including Chief Minister many times but the Government has always turned a deaf ear to the issues,” said Bikramjeet Singh, former Secretary, GPC Srinagar.
APSCC Chairman, Jagmohan Singh Raina said that in the past many political parties through their sycophants have managed to enter Gurudwaras and deliver political speeches even though the occasion and stage was not meant for that.
