Sikkim bags PM award for excellence in public administration

GANGTOK, Apr 21:
Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh conferred the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in PublicAdministration for the year 2011-12 to the Rural Management and Development Department (RM&DD), Government of Sikkim, for the initiative titled ‘Excellence in Rural Management and Development in the Challenging Physical Environment of the Sikkim Himalaya’.
This award was received by Mr. D R Nepal, Secretary – RM&DD in a function organized at the Plenary Hall of Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on the occasion of the Civil Service Day on 21st April, 2013. He was accompanied by Mrs. C C Wangdi, Special Secretary and Dr. Sandeep Tambe, Special Secretary.
21st April is observed by the Civil Services to rededicate and recommit themselves to the cause of the people. The Government of India has instituted the ‘Prime Ministers Awards for Excellence in Public Administration’ to acknowledge, recognize and reward the extraordinary and innovative work done by officers of the Central and State Governments. This is the nation’s highest recognition for excellence in public administration. The RM&DD has over the last five years bagged 16 national awards from the various Ministries of the Government of India, and this PM’s Award is a reaffirmation of the visible contribution made in improving the quality of life of the rural people in the State.
