JAMMU, Jan 7: Silk Fab, an exclusive handloom exhibition in Jammu, which is an initiative of the office of Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India through National Handloom Development Corporation, has offered heavy Sunday discounts on purchase of handloom items.
The exhibition, which began on the first day of January at Zone By The Park, Rail Head Complex, Jammu, has also offered an exclusive wedding package for the consumers who are interested in shopping for the oncoming wedding season.
The participants in the exhibitions are from various state government bodies, apex societies, primary handloom weavers, cooperative societies,/handloom agencies and integrated handloom development schemes. Total 60 agencies from eight states are participating in the exhibition.
Earlier, Romesh Khajuria, Chairman of the Wool and Woollens Export Promotion Council (WWEPC), Ministry of Textile, Government of India on Tuesday inaugurated the National Silk Fab Exhibition.
In a statement, he said: “The Handloom sector is a symbol of our country’s rich and varied cultural heritage. The handloom sector of India employs 31 lakh persons directly or indirectly which is next only to the agricultural sector in the country.”
“The art of handloom weaving has traditional values attached to it and each region has exquisite varieties. The uniqueness of silk products such as Chanderi, Madhubani, Banarasi, Jamdani, Baluchari, and Ikkat, to name a few, attracts customers across the globe with exclusive weaves, designs and traditional motifs,” he said.
The exhibition will be open to the public from 11 am to 8 pm for fourteen days up to14th January 2023.
