Since March, COVID-19 affects 367 doctors, 1916 pregnant women across Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 10: With the availability of COVID-19 vaccine being just around the corner, the pandemic since its inception in Kashmir in March this year has affected more than 1900 pregnant women and over 1000 doctors and healthcare workers.
Data made available by the Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir (DHSK) stated that the COVID-19-apart from the general population and high-risk groups-infected 1916 pregnant women across Kashmir’s 10 districts mostly from earlier declared Red Zone Areas in more than 8 months now.
In terms of frontline workers including doctors and other healthcare workers, the COVID-19 pandemic has affected 1044 such individuals which include 367 doctors and 677 paramedics.
About the pregnant women who tested positive for COVID-19, district Baramulla has recorded the highest number with 298 pregnant women testing positive for COVID-19 till December 8 this year with district Ganderbal showing up at the end of the list with 96 pregnant women who tested COVID-19 positive.
Further, district Anantnag recorded 229 cases of pregnant women, Srinagar 206 cases, Bandipora 175 cases, Budgam 271 cases, Kulgam 195 cases, Kupwara 171 cases, Pulwama 167 cases and Shopian 108 cases since the first COVID-19 case was reported from Kashmir on March 18.
Regarding the number of healthcare workers, including doctors testing COVID-19 positive-district Srinagar tops the list with 345 such cases which include 179 doctors and district Budgam and Baramulla following district Srinagar with 124, 122 such cases respectively.
Out of 124 in Budgam 40 are doctors, while as in Baramulla, out of 122, 29 are doctors. However, the district which shows up at the end of the list in the number of healthcare workers contracting COVID-19 is Shopian with 30 such cases which include only 4 doctors.
Similarly, district Anantnag has had 100 such cases with 37 doctors, Bandipora 52 with 8 doctors, Ganderbal 84 cases with 13 doctors, Kulgam 50 with 12 doctors, Kupwara 79 with 23 doctors and Pulwama 59 with 22 doctors.
Notably, the first case of a pregnant woman testing positive for COVID-19 was reported from district Anantnag on April 25 this year with the latest cases being reported from districts like Budgam, Ganderbal and Baramulla on December 8.
The first case of a healthcare worker testing positive for COVID-19 was reported on April 7 this year in from district Baramulla Interestingly, the first doctor testing positive for the COVID-19 was also reported from district Baramulla on April 21 this year with the
latest such case being reported from district Budgam on December 8.
