SIT should be extended to J&K State: NSF

JAMMU, Feb 6: National Sikh Front (NSF) has welcomed the decision of Central Government to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT), regarding 1984 anti-Sikh genocide and demanded that the purview of the SIT should be extended up to Jammu & Kashmir State.
Talking to media-persons, chairman of the Front, Varinder Jeet Singh alleged that during 1984 riots, 24 Sikhs were killed at Talwara in district Reasi. There is need to hold thorough probe into the matter and fix responsibility. Mr Singh also demanded a SIT on the riots which took place in Jammu city on January 13,1989.
The Front chairman further said that after expiry of 30 years till date, the Sikhs have not been given justice and for that the members appointed in the SIT should be honest and the SIT should be under the supervision and control of Supreme Court. The SIT should submit its report within 3 months, special courts should be formed after the report of SIT comes to deliver justice to those who are waiting desperately for the past 30 years. The hearing should be held in special courts on daily basis, the Front leaders maintained. They said many Commissions have been formed in the past by Governments but none of the Commission, submitted its report on time.
Mr Singh said that on January 13, 1989, the Nagar Kirtan of Sikhs was attacked in Jammu and around 16 Sikhs were killed and many injured. Property worth crores of Sikh community members was destroyed. Justice has not been given to Sikhs of Jammu till date. He demanded that culprits should be punished and Sikhs be given compensation.
Front members Kulwant Singh Bhatti, Gurdayal Singh Bali, Paramjeet Singh, Bikram Singh and Ramneek Singh also spoke on the occasion.
