JAMMU, Aug 26: The three-day sit-in protest of casual and daily wagers of Agriculture Department under the banner of J&K Agriculture Workers & Casual Labor Union (JKAWCLU), entered 2nd day today with protesting employees pressing for their only demand of service regularization.
More workers today joined the protest venue at Krishi Bhawan, Talab Tillo, Jammu. All Department Casual Labour Union president Tanveer Hussain also joined the protesting workers of Agriculture Department.
The protesting workers also said that if their genuine demand of service regularization is not met, they along with their families including children and old age parents will hit the roads. “With us our family members are also living in miserable conditions. We can’t afford even two time meals for our children and dependent family members out of the meager monthly wages of Rs 6750,” they added.
The protesters led by JKAWCLU president Devinder Singh Bittu, vice president Gyan Chand and general secretary Tilak Raj today handed over one memorandum with a single point demand of their regularization to Inder Jeet Director Agriculture Jammu. Director Agriculture Jammu, while maintaining that the regularization demand of casual workers is genuine, said that their demand shall be strongly recommended to the competent authority.
The Union members requested J&K LG Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary BVR Subramaniam and Principal Secretary APD Navin K Choudhary to fulfill the service regularization demand of casual labour.
