JAMMU, Apr 1: Police Headquarters J&K, Jammu has directed all the units and wings to extend in-situ promotion under SRO 14 of 1996 to all the deserving followers. Due to this decision, about 5000 followers will get benefited.
In the year 1996, Government issued SRO-14, whereby all non gazetted employees who completes 9, 18 and 27 years of service will be entitled to 1st, 2nd and 3rd in-situ promotions subject to maximum of three including the functional pay scales. However, the benefits under the said SRO could not be extended to the deserving due to its misinterpretation as a result of which the department was served with litigations in shape of SWPs by the aggrieved followers and few of them represented to PHQ.
To dispose of the issue, the matter was placed before the Police Establishment Board (PEB) on June 11 2017, following recommendation of the committee constituted in this regard at PHQ to examine the issue.
After detailed discussion and re-examination a meeting was held at PHQ on February 10, 2018 under the chairmanship of DGP, J&K Dr SP Vaid, which approved the benefits of in-situ promotion as provided under SRO 14 of 1996 to the followers of J&K Police.
