JAMMU, May 2: Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief, Gulam Ahmed Mir has alleged that situation in Kashmir is all time worst since 1947 and both BJP and PDP are responsible for bringing disaster in the State.
While talking to media-persons at party headquarters here today, Mir condemned the attack on a school bus by stone-pelters in Shopian today, saying that the situation in the Valley is `all time worst since 1947′.
Referring to over all situation in the State Mir said, “The situation in Kashmir is all time worst as the Central and State Governments are not able to tackle it properly. Militancy was there for the past three decades but the previous Governments managed to deliver, run the schools, carried forward the developmental work,” Mir maintained.

PCC chief said the situation had not been so worst in Kashmir after 1947. The State witnessed lot of bloodshed during past three years. The democracy has also suffered under this Government. The Lok Sabha by-elections were cancelled one day before polling in Anantnag Parliamentary constituency last year. The Government first announced holding of Panchayat and Local Bodies elections, then decided to postpone it,” Mir said.
When asked about the Congress’ stand on amnesty given to first time stone-pelters, he said any proposal coming from the State Government needs a nod from the Home Ministry. He said Congress never took such a shortcut.
“We follow the law of the land, the constitution and will not endorse anything which is wrong,” he maintained.
Mir claimed that Congress is ready for mid-term elections as “we believe in democratic exercise and are not the one who tries to escape from it”.
“We supported elections, whether for by-polls to fill vacant Assembly or Lok Sabha seats, Panchayats and Local Urban Bodies. We believe in democracy,” Mir added.
The PCC president termed this Govt as ‘anti-Dalit’ and maintained that remarks of BJP MLA from Chenani has vindicated Congress stand.
“They are cutting ribbons of the projects which were started by the previous UPA Government like national highway, construction of tunnels and hospitals and had not come out with a single project till date. They have only made promises and shown dreams to the public,” Mir said.
When asked about the recent reshuffle in the State Cabinet, Mir said, “It was not a routine exercise, no matter how much they put a veil on it. Haseeb Drabu (former Finance Minister) and two BJP ministers (Lal Singh and Chander Prakash Ganga) were shown the door otherwise, there was no possibility of induction of new faces.”
Meanwhile, PCC chief announced completion of the membership drive and the election process in the State unit, saying a record number of 10 lakh members have enrolled themselves. He also declared that organizational structure from booth level delegates, block president, district delegates, PCC delegates from each block and AICC delegates has been approved and announced by the Central Congress election authority. He said DCC presidents shall also be announced shortly.
Senior party leaders, Raman Bhalla, Ravinder Sharma, Shabir Khan and Manjit Singh also accompanied.
