JAMMU: Senior Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday claimed that the situation in Kashmir valley was ‘very bad’.
“Kashmir situation is ‘very bad’,” Mr Azad told reporters on his arrival here, after staying for four days in the valley.
He will meet representatives of various political parties and social organisations, during his two-day stay to this winter capital.
“After assessing the situation, I will appraise the Supreme Court about it,” said the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, adding, “Freedom of Speech has been curbed in the Valley. During my four-day stay in Kashmir, I was not allowed to visit even the tenth part of my planned locations.”
Earlier on August 20, Mr Azad arrived at Jammu airport, where he was stopped and sent back to Delhi.
Mr Azad arrived here to meet the partymen, but was detained for a brief period.
He had expressed resentment over his detention and said that if the government claimed that Jammu is peaceful, then why he was not allowed to move out of the airport complex.
The Congress stalwart arrived in Srinagar on Friday, days after the Supreme Court granted him permission to travel to Jammu and Kashmir.
Restrictions were laid in Kashmir as preventive measure, post abrogation of Article 370 on August 5 and the state was bifurcated into two Union Territories.
