SKEWPY a job security certificate for unemployed youth: Sadhotra

SRINAGAR, July 16: Minister for Labour, Employment and Planning, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, today underlined the need for strict and speedy implementation of Sher-i-Kashmir Employment Welfare Programme for Youth (SKEWPY) for ensuring job security to educated unemployed youth of the State through self-employment.
The Minister was addressing a review meeting of SKEWPY here today which was attended by Commissioner Secretary Labour and Employment, B.A. Runiyal, Director Employment, Dr. Abdul Rashid, Director JKEDI, Mohammad Ismail Parray, Secretary JKWDC, A.M. Zargar, President J&K Bank, Nayeem-ullah and Joint Director Planning, S. Bilal Ahmed.
Mr. Sadhotra said the SKEWPY is the dream project of Chief Minister and every effort should be made to encourage youth to take up the scheme for self-reliance and also to live with dignity and honour.
Impressing upon officers to work in unison, Mr Sadhotra hoped that coordinated efforts would assure successful implementation of the scheme.
Appealing all to contribute a bit in making the future of the youth bright through self-employment ventures, the Minister said that Government cannot alone solve the unemployment crisis, every individual should lend a helping hand to the youth to set up income generating units and above all in providing awareness about different schemes launched by the Government.
On this occasion, the meeting was informed that as many as 330049 youth were registered by Employment Department up to June this year for taking up self-employment ventures. Against five lakh target of employment generation under SKEWPY, achievement of around 2 lakh units was registered during last five years.
Giving the details of Voluntary Service Allowance Scheme (VSA), the meeting was informed that the age of the beneficiaries should be between 26 and 37 years with annual income of Rs. 1.50 lakh from all sources. The qualification of the beneficiary should be minimum matric and the VSA will be admissible only for a maximum period of 3 years.    The beneficiary will be required to render voluntary work upto a total of 12 hours a week. A matriculate will be paid Rs. 600 per month, 10+2 Rs. 650, 10+2 with ITI Rs. 700, 10 + 2 with 3 years diploma Rs. 850, graduate Rs. 1000 and post graduate Rs. 1200.
