SKIMS Achieves DNB Accreditation Fellowship In Colorectal Surgery

SRINAGAR, Sept 11: Kashmir’s biggest tertiary care hospital, Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS) Srinagar, achieved a milestone as it has been permitted to start a 2-year academic course in colorectal surgery by the Diplomate of the National Board (DNB).

The SKIMS Srinagar became the first major healthcare centre in the country to start the accredited fellowship in colorectal surgery, a statement from SKIMS said on Wednesday.
It said that SKIMS achieved a major milestone in the academic arena as the Department of General Surgery has been permitted to start an accredited DNB fellowship of 2 years duration in colorectal surgery.
HOD (Head of the Department) General and Minimal Invasive Surgery Prof. Ajaz Ahmad Malik thanked Director SKIMS Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie and Dean Medical Faculty SKIMS Prof. Shariq R. Masoodi for their support and guidance.
“It is a proud moment for this prestigious institution and the Department of General and Minimal Invasive Surgery for achieving this major academic milestone,” Prof Malik said.
He also thanked and appreciated contributions and dedication by the colorectal unit, including Prof Fazal Qadir Parray and Prof. Rauf Ahmad Wani.
Director SKIMS, Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie, congratulated the department and all its consultants for the academic excellence.
“It is a big achievement as the accredited fellowship is the first of its kind to be started in the country,” he said, adding, “this is an acknowledgement for our commitment to academic excellence, which is the main and top priority of SKIMS besides patient care.”
He further said that the introduction of new highly specialised clinical courses will give a major boost to our academic activities, further enhancing the standard of teaching and academic practices at SKIMS.(Agencies)
