SRINAGAR, Aug 22: The authorities at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) issued a public notice today to address a trend of fraudulent fundraising activities using patient reports from the institute.
“It has come to our attention that certain fraudsters are raising money for patients by displaying patient reports of CT scans/PET scans and similar documents issued by various departments of SKIMS,” it said.
As per the SKIMS authorities, the reports allegedly utilized by these fraudsters to solicit funds lack endorsement from the hospital.
“These reports do not indicate any endorsement of a fundraiser by SKIMS. Any certificate issued to verify a patient’s financial needs for investigations or treatment is always signed by the head of the respective department and countersigned by the Director of SKIMS.”
SKIMS authorities emphasize that any certificate provided by the institute, certifying a patient’s financial requirements for medical procedures or treatment, undergoes a thorough processing.
As part of this clarification, SKIMS highlights its non-affiliation with any fundraising activities, whether legitimate or fraudulent, that occur outside of the official certification process,
The public has been urged to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of any fundraising initiatives claiming association with the hospital.
