SKIMS conducts awareness program on Fire & Safety

Srinagar, Apr 19: Department of Hospital Administration SKIMS in coordination with the Fire and Emergency Services today conducted a day-long program aimed at creating wide awareness about fire safety measures in hospitals.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS Prof. Farooq A Jan while speaking on the occasion highlighted the importance of fire safety measures in hospitals.
Concerning SKIMS, he said the hospital has a vibrant fire safety system in place and that the training is regularly imparted to dedicated staff and mock drills are frequently conducted.
He also stressed for smart detection system to avoid any eventuality. ‘He further said that many such programs at a large scale need to be conducted with the participation of all stakeholders.
Nodal Officer Fire Safety SKIMS Dr Samina Mufti gave a detailed presentation on fire safety and its prevention in hospitals. She elaborated that all hospitals must incorporate a Fire Safety system in their DPRs for a fool proof system.
She said further said that the recent major fire incident at Bone & Joint hospital underlines that fire incidents are unavoidable and every effort should be made to the prevention of such incidents.
Divisional Head Fire & Emergency Services J&K Tassaduq Ahmad & Assistant Director Fire & Emergency Services, Aqib Ahmad Mir also spoke on the occasion and emphasised proactive fire fighting mechanisms in hospitals for fire detection, protection and prevention.
It is pertinent to mention that from April 14 to 22 every year Fire Safety awareness week is celebrated. During the week SKIMS administration conducted many training programs and drills among all cadres of the hospital.
