64 inmates of Kupwara jail among 1805 test +ve in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, May 27: Kashmir today reported 1805 fresh cases of COVID-19 including 64 inmates of Kupwara jail while 13 persons died here.
Those who died today include a former Technical officer Radiology SKIMS. The others include a 65-year-old man from Magarmal Bagh Batamaloo,68-year-old woman from Dalgate Srinagar, a 75-year-old man from Hawal Srinagar, a 70-year-old woman from Batamaloo Srinagar, a 65-year-old woman from Kunzer Tangmarg in Baramulla district, a 73-year-old woman from Ompora Budgam, a 68-year-old retired doctor from Baghat Srinagar, a 60-year-old woman from Badragund Anantnag and a 65-year-old woman from Kund Kulgam.
Those who tested positive include 377 Srinagar, 260 Baramulla, 195 Budgam, 196 Pulwama, 217 Kupwara, 205 Anantnag, 78 Bandipora, 96 Ganderbal, 146 Kulgam and 35 from Shopian.
And at least 64 inmates of the district jail Kupwara have tested positive for the COVID-19 today while 20 cases were earlier reported from the jail.
There are 270 inmates, only men are lodged there. Earlier, 20 inmates had tested positive of which six have recovered while 64 more tested positive today.
Two sons of late Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) have tested positive for COVID-19 two days ago.
Both of them, Mujahid Sehrai and Rashid Ashraf are currently in Kupwara jail where they have tested positive and are currently under isolation at DPL Kupwara as per the guidelines issued by the Government.
Officials said that necessary medicines are being provided to them while their condition is being regularly monitored.
Pertinent to mention, Sehrai, Tehreek-i-Hurriyat chairman, died on 5th May in a Jammu hospital due to COVID. He was under detention after he was slapped with the PSA and was buried on May 6 in Kupwara.
After that, both of his sons were arrested on May 15 for raising “pro-freedom and provocative slogans” at the funeral of their father.
As per officials figures, 63,825 positive cases including 755 deaths and 57,620 recoveries are from Srinagar, 20,695 including 249 deaths and 17,357 recoveries are from Baramulla, 19,553 including 16,223 recoveries and 171 deaths are from Budgam, 12,518 including 10,150 recoveries and 161 deaths are from Pulwama, 11,348 including 138 deaths and 9,299 recoveries are from Kupwara, 13,920 including 9,803 recoveries and 157 deaths are from Anantnag, 8,209 cases including 7,143 and 85 deaths are from Bandipora, 8,288 including 6,970 recoveries and 67 deaths are from Ganderbal, 9,531 including 7,237 recoveries and 94 deaths are from Kulgam and 5,165 including 3,951 recoveries and 54 deaths are from Shopian.
The number of positive cases in Kashmir division has reached to 173,052 including 145,753 recoveries and 1,931.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 42,272 including 25,368 from Kashmir division.
With 4,352 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 235,617 which is 83.66 percent of the total cases.
And in the meantime, Corona Curfew continued to remain in place for the 29th day today across Kashmir while police arrested 183 persons and also realized fine to the tune of 1,37,290 for norm violation in the Valley.
Police and paramilitary troops were deployed in large numbers across Srinagar and major towns to enforce the lockdown restrictions. The barricades and concertina wires were erected at many places to prevent public movement.
All the shops and business establishments barring emergency services remained closed throughout the day in Srinagar and other districts of Kashmir.
However, vehicular movement was witnessed on the roads in almost every area today.
Police have arrested 183 persons, lodged 94 FIRs and also realized fine to the tune of Rs 1,37,290 from 848 people for violating the guidelines and rules in Kashmir.
