SKIMS regaining its lost glory: Farooq

SRINAGAR, Dec 5: Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Dr Farooq Abdullah today said that SKIMS was regaining its lost glory, which was hit by militancy and ongoing conflict.
He was speaking on SKIMS 31st annual day, celebrated to commemorate contributions of late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on his birth anniversary here today.
Mr Abdullah appreciated SKIMS faculty and administration for their tremendous efforts to maintain the sanctity of the prestigious institution of the State conceived by late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah as highest seat of treatment to serve the poor and needy.
Assuring Director SKIMS on upgrdation of infrastructure including SKIMS auditorium,   the Union Minister said he has already taken up the matter with Union Minister for Health Ghulam Nabi Azad and Prime Minister of India for expansion of SKIMS.
On the occasion, Director SKIMS and Ex-officio Secretary to Government Dr S A Zargar highlighted the SKIMS achievements, which included setup of genetic center, bioinformatics, regional virology lab and so on. He also informed that emergency medicine and critical will be upgraded from 12 to 40 beds.
Renowned gastroenterologist and Ex-Director SKIMS Dr M S Khuru, who was guest of honour delivered Sheri-Kashmir Memorial Oration where he discussed landmark events in discovery of Hepatitis E and its global impact.
On the occasion, video film on SKIMS activities and  life of late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was displayed. Dr Farooq  Abdullah felicitated Director SKIMS  Dr  S A Zargar and  also released SKIMS annual day report 2013.
