SKIMS sets up separate COPD Bay

SRINAGAR, Jan 3: Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, has established a dedicated Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Bay for emergency admissions.
According to officials, the initiative addresses the rising cases of COPD exacerbations due to the winter season.
The Bay has been set up by the Department of Emergency Medicine, SKIMS, in collaboration with the Departments of Pulmonary Medicine and General Medicine.
The specialized unit is designed to provide prompt, focused care to patients experiencing COPD exacerbations.
Key features of the COPD Bay include rapid access to oxygen therapy, nebulizers, Non-Invasive Ventilators (NIV), and essential medications. Additionally, streamlined protocols ensure faster diagnosis and intervention.
“This initiative aims to deliver timely and comprehensive care, enhancing outcomes in critical care situations,” an official said.
