SRINAGAR, Dec 5: Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura celebrated its 40th Annual Day today at its auditorium.
Prof (Dr) Vivek Lal (Director, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh) was the chief guest on the occasion while as Dr Showkat A Zargar (ex-director SKIMS) was the guest of honour.
Prof Vivek Lal, in his address, advised students to work with commitment which is basis of medicine. He further said that patients are the asset and teach the art of medicine. He stressed upon the students to be committed to their profession.
In his speech, Prof Showkat A Zargar acknowledged the services of various faculty members for shaping the institution. He recalled his days as administrator and said the foundation of SKIMS is based on patient care, research and academics and urged all its stakeholders to keep it intact.
Director SKIMS Prof Parvaiz A Koul in his address highlighted the achievements of the Institution. He said various initiatives were taken to digitize various patient care services. He informed that many super specialty courses were started in this academic year which included DM Pulmonary Medicine & MCH Endocrine Surgery.
Dean Medical Faculty SKIMS Prof Bashir A Laway highlighted the academic achievements of the University and said besides new courses started this year SKIMS is running various postgraduate & graduate courses which is contributing to human resources at all levels.
Principal Medical College SKIMS Prof Irfan Robbani, organizing chairman Prof Altaf Hussain Shah and organizing secretary Prof Mushtaq Ahmed Khan also spoke on the occasion.
Ex-director SKIMS and renowned endocrinologist Prof Abdul Hamid Zargar delivered Sher-i-Kashmir oration. In his lecture on “Non-communicable diseases: Some New Insights”, he discussed in detail the burden of various diseases and their impact at global level vis-a-vis economy.
The annual report and a book titled ‘Quality Management of Hospital’ authored by Prof Farooq A Jan (Medical Superintendent, SKIMS) was also released on the occasion.
