Srinagar, Dec 3: On the 42nd Annual Day of the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, several e-inaugurations of new facilities will take place, and the departments will showcase innovative procedures and the latest techniques adopted over the past year.
Officials stated that the event-to be held on December 5-which will also be attended by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, is set to provide an opportunity for departments to highlight procedures that have enhanced patient care and gained widespread recognition.
“All departments have already submitted their plans for the exhibition. A committee was formed to shortlist the exhibitors, who will present their achievements through posters and videos,” Director SKIMS, Dr. Ashraf Ganie, told Excelsior.
The event will also emphasize the institution’s achievements, focusing on best practices in patient care, academic excellence, and advanced research, with the exhibition main attraction, showcasing innovative contributions from various departments.
Dr. Ganie noted that the exhibition will also highlight steps taken by the hospital administration to improve patient care. The Annual Report and other publications will also be released during the event.
It is noteworthy that SKIMS was established in 1982 by Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah with the primary objective of providing specialized healthcare services to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials added that the hospital’s 100-day journey will also be presented, showcasing measures implemented to enhance services, including plans currently in progress.
The 100-day vision was formulated by Dr. Ganie shortly after assuming the role of Director. This plan prioritized academic advancements and improving emergency care, an area that had faced criticism in recent times.
Under this initiative, several improvements have been implemented, such as relocating the pediatric emergency department, starting a dedicated emergency laboratory, and establishing a triage system to facilitate emergency treatments.
While these steps have significantly improved healthcare services, challenges remain in upgrading equipment, such as MRI and advanced X-ray machines, and addressing staffing shortages.
Dr. Ganie assured Excelsior that the process of upgrading machinery and recruiting additional human resources is ongoing, and these requirements will be addressed soon.
As part of the Annual Day celebrations, several e-inaugurations will also take place, including the CT Simulator, University Block, Sports Ground, and other facilities and equipment.
SKIMS PRO informed that Dr. A.K. Nagpal, former Director SKIMS, will deliver the ‘Sher-e-Kashmir Oration,’ while the Director’s Report will be presented by Dr Ganie, summarizing the activities, achievements, and recent developments at SKIMS.
In addition to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the event will be attended by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, cabinet ministers Sakeena Masood, Javed Ahmad Rana, Javid Ahmad Dar, and Satish Sharma, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, and Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani. Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo will also grace the event as a special guest.
