SKPA organizes training program on drug abuse for police officers

UDHAMPUR, Feb 26: Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA) Udhampur today organized one-day training program on “Drug Abuse Prevention for Police Functionaries” in collaboration with the National Institute of Social Defense, Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, under National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR).
The objectives of the training program was to make aware the officers of J&K Police about the ill effects of use of different types of drugs and alcohol, signs/symptoms of their ill effects, reasons and repercussion and preventive measures, Government interventions and legislative provisions including NDPS Act 1985 including National toll free drug help lines, principles of addiction treatment, counselling and relapse prevention and the Role of Police in prevention and control of drug abuse and rehabilitation of drugs affected persons.
The training program was attended by 40 officers from the rank of ASIs to Deputy SPs of J&K Police. During the training program, Satish Sharma, Intelligence Officer NCB Jammu, Dr Shahnaz Bhat, I/C J&K Police, Drug De-addiction Centre Jammu and Kamal Sharma, CPO CLI SKPA Udhampur, gave the respective presentations on the topics viz Drug abuse, preventive measures, drug abuse treatment, the Role of Police in Prevention and Control of Drug Abuse and Rehabilitation of Drug affected Persons.
Healthy discussions on various aspects of drug menace, drug addiction, preventive measures to curve this menace, drug abuse treatment and legislative provisions in dealing with crime and criminals as well as pro-active action of police in preventing the youths from getting entrapped in this menace were also held.
The training program was inaugurated by SSP Mohan Lal, Assistant Director, SKPA Udhampur, who stressed that a serious reduction in the supply and demand of illicit drugs can only be accomplished and determined with a cooperative effort between law enforcement agencies and the community which we serve. He said it is only possible when the officers of J&K Police will be responsible enough to discharge their duties with respect to various provision of laws related with NDPS.
The proceedings of the training program were conducted by Kamal Sharma whereas it was concluded with the valedictory address of Murtaza Nasir, Deputy Director, Prosecution SKPA Udhampur.
