JAMMU, May 2: During the 25th meeting of Academic Council of SKUAST-Jammu, which was held at Chatha Campus, here today under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof B N Tripathi, various agenda items were approved after threadbare discussion.
The main agenda items included; institutionalization of the dual degree programme with Western Sydney University Australia from academic session 2024-25, practical training for undergraduates, extensive research exposure and establishment of collaborative learning space in the University, research publication by Ph D scholar and guidelines for Ph D synopsis, enhancement of intake capacity for admission to undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes for the academic session 2024-25, modification in the pre-requisite for taking up Experiential Learning Programme, engagement of Ph D students as teaching assistant and profit sharing in Experiential Learning Units .
In his remarks, Vice Chancellor Prof B N Tripathi emphasized the importance of regularly conducting Academic Council meetings to devise and modify rules, contributing towards continuous improvement in the quality of education. He stressed upon increasing the teaching competencies of University teachers through continuous capacity building programmes on modern teaching aids and methodologies.
He called for a revamp of teaching methodologies to be more practical-oriented that contribute to the university’s improved ranking. He emphasised faculty members to take lead in raising awareness about patents or Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) during their interactions with students and researchers. He advised that the recommendations be implemented effectively without further delay in the interest of academic excellence.
The agenda of meeting was presented by Dr S K Gupta, Registrar and Member Secretary of the Academic Council. The meeting was attended by Directors, Deans of Faculties, Heads of Divisions, Regional Research Stations and Institutes, University Librarian, Joint Registrar (Academics) Dr Bharat Bhushan and one Post Graduate student (Ph D). Dr Amit Jasrotia, Professor and Dr Subash Kashyap, Associate Professor were the rapporteurs.
