JAMMU, Aug 24: To celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Agrometeorology Section under the aegis of Vice Chancellor and guidance of Director Research & Registrar of SKUAST-Jammu in collaboration with IFFCO- J&K organized one day ‘Farmers Awareness cum Input and plant distribution programme’ to sensitize farmers against future climate change effect. Dr. Jag Paul Sharma, Director Research & Registrar, SKUAST-J was chief guest and Dr. Bahadur Ram, Marketing Manager, IFFCO-J&K and Afshan Hamal, BDO Miran Sahab were guests of honour and about 188 farmers participated in the programme proceeding of which was started by Dr. Mahender Singh, PI NICRA AICRPAM and Sr. Scientist &I/C, Agrometeorology.
Dr. Jag Paul Sharma encouraged farmers to take benefits from the forecast services under NICRA Project which will ultimately enhance the income of poor and marginal farmers of the area.
Dr. Bahadur Ram told about the functioning by IFFCO for the benefits of farmer in J&K and new products developed by the cooperative society.
Dr. V.B Singh, Sr. Scientist stressed farmers on adopting new vegetable garden techniques as well as on the role of weather factors in disease development and their management in rice and horticultural crops.
Dr. Charu Sharma emphasized upon farming community to adopt improved/modern technologies like agro-advisories services and mechanized farming system to improve the livelihood of the people of the area.
Vivek Verma, Field Officer, IFFCO also highlighted uses of nano urea in various crops.
Sarpanch Seema Kumari, progressive farmer Sham Gorkha, Parveen Kesar (Panch), ex CMO Dr. Girdhari Lal and others also participated in the programme.
