SKUAST-J honoured with Special Prize

JAMMU, Nov 6: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu(SKUAST-J) was honoured with the Special Prize for the display of agricultural technologies in the 100th Farmers Fair and Agro-Industrial Exhibition held at Gobind Ballab Pant University of Agriculture and Technology(GBPUA&T), Pantnagar in Uttrakhand.
This four days long mega farmers fair was attended by different Agricultural Universities, National and Regional Research Stations, Krishi Vigyan Kendras(KVKs), Multinational Companies, National Companies, Renowned Publishing Agencies, Self Help Groups(SHGs), Farmers’ Clubs etc.
The event which is popularly known as Krishi Kumbhwas attended by more than 50,000 of farmers, scientists, scholars etc from India and abroad and was organised by the Asia’s largest agriculture university GBPUA&T, the birth place of Green Revolution.
Over  300 exhibition stalls by the government and non-government organizations were set up there. SKUAST-J team showed its strong presence in this mega event with the latest agricultural and allied sectors technologies for the benefits of the farmers. SKUAST-J team was well guided by Director Extension Dr.K.S. Risam and Associate Director Extension Dr.K.S. Arora.
SKUAST-J team for the aforementioned farmers fair was spearheaded by Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr. Vishawjeet Brahma, Assistant. Prof., Div. of Veterinary Sciences, Satpal Singh, Subash Chander and  Surinder Singh.
Farmers were fascinated by the live samples of certified organic vegetables and spices which were taken from Reasi district of J&K. Dr. Banarsi elaborated the successful results of organic farming in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir and explained the methodologies involved in organic farming and encouraged the farmers for organic farming by which they can fetch more prices. SKUAST-J also distributed farming literature like leaflets, technical bulletins, success stories etc.  to the farmers. Farmers from various states demanded the technologies developed by SKUAST-J. Dr. Brahma explained the low cost manufacturing of livestock nutrition.
Different dignitaries including Vice Chancellor of GBPUA&T visited SKUAST-J stall and appreciated the SKUAST-J stall.
Observing the outstanding display of SKUAST-J stall, it was adjudged for the special prize. The award contains a certificate of excellence and a memento which was received by Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi.
