JAMMU, Oct 16: The Division of Agricultural Extension Education, SKUAST-Jammu under JKST&IC sponsored project for Rural Women & Youths of Purmandal Block, district Samba under the guidance of Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.N Tripathi organised a training on ‘Value Addition of Minor Fruits in Kandi Area of Jammu: An opportunity to generate Rural Employment for Livelihood Security.’
Prof. Poonam Parihar, PI of the Project informed the participants about value addition of minor fruits which can substantially uplift rural livelihoods.
Dr. Neerja Sharma, Chief Scientist, Horticulture, KVK, Samba & CoPI briefly explained that minor fruits with their diverse characteristics and untapped potential, offer significant opportunities for value addition and entrepreneurship.
She also briefed the participants about the importance of value addition, industrial growth, urbanization and globalization and laid practical demonstrations on value addition of Karonda into many values added bi-products like Karonda Squash, Karonda pickle etc.
The programme was attended by Sarbjeet Singh, Senior Technical Assistant, Mukesh, Kumar, Artist, Adarsh Jammoria, Project Assistant and Jamyang Lhamo, Ph.D student of SKUAST-J.
The handouts/literature regarding processing, preservation and packaging were also distributed among the participants. The programme was concluded with a vote of thanks by Sarbjeet Singh.
