SKUAST-J organizes training prog on “Processing of Aonla”

JAMMU, Jan 1: Rainfed Research Sub Station for Sub Tropical Fruits (RRSS), Raya of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J), organised one day training cum demonstration programme on Processing of Aonla (Aonla Candy) for Rural Women and unemployed youth under SERB DST, New Delhi project entitled, “Exploitation of under-utilized fruits of Kandi areas of Jammu region through value addition for human resource development”, at village Siot, block: Sunderbani in Rajouri district.
The programme was aimed at profitable utilization of Aonla fruit by making its Candy through processing on scientific lines to fetch better market price for this value added product. In this training, about 50 rural farm women and unemployed youth from Siot village participated.
Dr Neeraj Gupta, Principal Investigator, SERB-DST Project, gave details regarding the importance of value addition of Aonla fruit in the rainfed areas of hilly regions of Rajouri district and gave a detailed demonstration for making Aonla Candy through processing of Aonla fruit. The participants were apprised with the technique of value addition of Aonla fruit and its profitable economics. The participants were satisfied with this new technique of value addition of Aonla fruit by its utilization in the kandi areas as this fruit is abundantly available in this area.
Rakesh Kumar Bali, Chairman Panchayat Halqa Upper Siot was very pleased to know the technique of value addition of Aonla and its processing into Candy fruit. Nirmal Kumar, Senior Horticulture Technician made all the necessary arrangements for the successful completion of the training programme.
Meenakshi Trilokia, JRF of the SERB DST Project, threw light on the objective of the programme.
