RAMBAN, June 22: In Fruit and Vegetable Mandi, Batote, Vice-Chancellor of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Science and Technology, Prof B N Tripathi inaugurated five-day training program on “Marketing and Business Opportunities for Horticultural Crops in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir”.
The event is being organized by SKUAST-Jammu, in collaboration with Department of Horticulture Planning and Monitoring Batote, Ramban and sponsored by CCS-NIAM, Jaipur, Rajasthan. Dr Amrish Vaid, Director Extension, SKUAST-Jammu; Dr Sudhakar Dwivedi (Course Director), Dean Student Welfare, SKUAST-Jammu; Dr Vikas Tandon, Dean, Faculty of Horticulture & Forestry, SKUAST-Jammu and Dr Hema Tripathi, Associate Director Extension, SKUAST-Jammu were guests of honour on the occasion.
During his address, Prof Tripathi provided valuable insights about the program and highlighted the importance of horticulture in the current era. He commended active participation of women in the training, emphasizing their role in becoming self-independent and significant income earners for their families.
Earlier, in the morning, Prof Tripathi inaugurated the first Rural Business Service Hub (RBSH) , Om Shakti Agri Trading Company under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme at Thopal in Batote.
Dr Amrish Vaid, Director Extension, SKUAST-Jammu, shared insights into marketing strategies and enhancements in agricultural production. He emphasized the role of startups, value addition, and supply chain management, citing examples of successful ventures. He also highlighted the significance of understanding and promoting local crops, emphasizing their health benefits.
Dr Sudhakar Dwivedi provided an overview of the training topics. Dr Vikas Tandon emphasized the critical importance of horticulture in today’s world, while Dr Hema Tripathi delivered an inspiring lecture on “Seizing Opportunities: Empowering Youth in Horticulture Entrepreneurship in Jammu and Kashmir,” focusing on the potential of youth in transforming the horticulture sector.
Dr Anil Bhat, Associate Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu and co-Course Director of the training program, conducted the proceedings. Dr Raj Kumar, Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ramban was also present on the occasion.
Thirty trainees hailing from Banihal, Ramban, Batote and Gandhri blocks were educated during the session. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Sunil Kumar Bakshi, Area Marketing Officer, Ramban. The event was coordinated by Dr Akshay Deep, Maninder and Rohit.
